Xuelin Yang

I am a first-year Ph.D. student in Statistics at UC Berkeley. Previously, I graduated from Stanford University with a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics and a concurrent Master's degree in Computer Science, where I was fortunate to work with Prof. Robert Tibshirani, Prof. Jiajun Wu, Prof. Jure Leskovec, and Prof. Yoon Kim (MIT).

Research

My research interest lies broadly in Applied Statistics and Machine Learning. My long-term goal is to develop fundamental methods that will advance interpretable inference toward human-level intelligence. My current aspiration is to use Econ ML to unravel the complexity of market interactions and behaviors. Specifically, I am excited to:

  • explore how we understand the market from a macro and micro perspective through the lens of statistical models,
  • uncover hidden patterns and correlations that might provide invaluable guidance for policymakers, investors, and stakeholders navigating the intricate landscape of markets.
